Commander Brucal was hired in 2000 after earning an Associate's degree Brucal, Omar (2) - Copy (3)from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He eventually pursued his Bachelor's degree in Business Management in 2008 from Benedictine University and is currently pursuing his Master's in Business Organizational Behavior.  As a patrol officer from 2000 to 2002, he earned specialties such as Juvenile Officer, Field Training Officer, and Evidence Technician. In mid-2002, Commander Brucal was assigned to the Investigations Section as the School Resource Officer for Addison Trail High School. Continuing the pattern of mentorship and guidance to Addison's youth, Commander Brucal was assigned to the Crime Prevention Unit in 2006 and became certified in teaching numerous curricula such as the DARE, GREAT, Too Good for Drugs, and CERT programs. He implemented the Police Department's first-ever Peer Jury program, a diversion program focusing on the rehabilitation of juveniles who commit minor offenses as opposed to having them prosecuted in court. In 2015, he became certified as a DARE officer train-the-trainer master instructor and currently conducts the training of officers in this program for the State of Illinois and nationwide.

In 2017, Commander Brucal returned to the Field Services Division (patrol) and displayed versatility in being certified as a Use of Force-Defensive Tactics (DT) instructor, becoming the lead DT instructor for the Department. He also became certified as a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) officer, helping guide interactions and crisis situations between law enforcement and those living with mental illness. Commander Brucal has also become active in instructing the FBI National Academy's Tactical Resiliency training throughout DuPage County and the nation. This program seeks to strengthen the resiliency of today's police officers in order to decrease the negative effects of adverse events and self-defeating behaviors. He was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 2020 and was then assigned as an Administrative Sergeant in 2022. In October of 2022, Commander Brucal graduated from Northwestern University's Staff and Command class. In 2023, he was once again assigned to Patrol Sergeant to assist with supervisor shortages in patrol.
