CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAMS

The Addison Police Department is proud of the many Crime Prevention Programs available to citizens of all ages.

Neighborhood Watch
The goal of this program is to reduce crime and criminal opportunity in participating neighborhoods by fostering communication and helpful relationships between neighbors and the police and neighborhoods. Block captains are invited to semi-annual meetings to bring back helpful prevention tips to their neighborhood. View the watch map here.

Seniors & Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.)
The program is a TRIAD consisting of senior citizens, the Addison Park District, and the Addison Police Department. The S.A.L.T. council has hosted numerous informational sessions and invited all Addison Park District seniors to attend.

Citizens Police Academy
This 11-week program offers Addison residents who are 18 years of age or older a chance to learn more about the Addison Police Department and its procedures. Information is also provided to educate citizens on necessary concepts of protecting themselves and their property. Members of the Police Department who have expertise in the subject matter teach classes.

Senior Citizens Police Academy
This 7-week program is available to citizens who are 55 years of age or older. The goal of the program is to offer continuous education for senior citizens. The seniors learn to recognize factors that may lead to a crime being committed against senior citizens. Members who have expertise in cons, scams, fraud, drug and gang awareness, and personal safety teach classes.

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

Citizens on Patrol (COP)/CERT Association
The Addison Police Department Citizens on Patrol (COP) /CERT Association consists of graduates of the Addison Citizens Police Academy and/or the CERT Program. Both programs educate residents on the workings of the Police Department. Both programs empower residents to call police when they observe something suspicious and to be able to take care of themselves and their families should a disaster occur.

This association attends monthly training meetings and participates in community events along side the Police Department. Members of the association respond when activated by the Police Department to assist in emergency situations.

Members participate in a variety of programs including the COP Radar Program, National Night Out, NIMS Training, and other special projects or events as needed.

Identity Theft
The Crime Prevention Section will provide information on what it is and how to help prevent becoming a victim of identity theft.
