Timothy "Bill" Hayden

Director of Police

Director Hayden is a 44-year plus law enforcement veteranDirector Hayden rising through the ranks to his current position as Director of Police of the Addison Police Department. He began his career in March of 1978
as a Patrol Officer in the Lombard Police Department. He began his career at the Addison Police Department in November of 1978,
working Patrol until 1981. He was then assigned as a Criminal and Juvenile investigator and served in that capacity for the next six
years. In 1987, he was promoted to Sergeant and moved quickly
on to the position of Field Services Division Commander. In May of 1990, he was again promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief of Police in
charge of the Field Services Division. His career culminated in 2003 when he was appointed Chief of Police and in recent years has become the Director of Police.

In addition to an outstanding career in law enforcement, Director Hayden adds numerous educational credits to his profession. He earned his Master's degree in Public Safety Administration from Lewis University and holds a Bachelor’s degree from the National College of Education. Director Hayden is a graduate of the 170th Session of the FBI National Academy, the 61st Session of the FBI National Academy Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar, as well as a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command, Supervision of Police Personnel and the Executive Management Program. Director Hayden is a member of numerous professional organizations focused on law enforcement. Director Hayden is an active community member.

Director Hayden oversees the day-to-day operation of the Department of 152 police personnel, 66 of whom are sworn police officers. His leadership style is best described as management by teamwork, wherein he believes in empowering staff to achieve successes by giving them opportunities to perform to their own level of expertise. He has a clear vision for the Department in maintaining its strength and building relationships in the community. The Addison Police Department is honored to have received its accreditation for the sixth time and, since 2012, the Certificate of Meritorious Accreditation under the CALEA Gold Standard Assessment model. The Addison Police Department maintains the high standards as set by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The future is bright for the Addison Police Department because we have a Department of knowledgeable and dedicated personnel, as well as a rich history of successful programs.
